We’re very excited to present a free workshop with Felicity Ford as part of Makers' Month at the Gallery.
Applying a
pioneer’s diy aesthetic to craft and digital recordings, Ford’s art practice is
uniquely accessible to audiences.
Join
us on Tuesday 15 April 2014 for a workshop that will celebrate the textures of our city.
Turning 3-D into 2-D: The Fabric of The City - a creative Research & Development workshop
This
two-part workshop led by Felicity Ford is suitable for participants aged
10+. Participants are welcome to stay
for the whole day or come for a morning or an afternoon session.
All materials
provided! All are welcome!
Morning:
3 hours
A
leisurely 35 minute walk through Oxford along an accessible route, finding
repeat patterns in the surfaces, shapes and textures of the city and its
structures. Documenting the patterns using a camera, pens, paper etc., we will
return to the Old Fire Station to finish our drawings and mark out where we found
our patterns on a map.
Afternoon:
3 hours
Examining the patterns we have found, we will compare them to images of knitted patterns and textures from stitch dictionaries. Matching patterns and textures found in the urban environment with patterns and textures detailed in knitting reference books, we will identify together The Fabric of The City.
